Blake Griffin & Brandon Jennings to Headline Slam Dunk Contest

Posted by Jo$h on January 5, 2011

This is a pretty underwhelming field in my opinion. I was hoping to get a Lebron vs Blake Griffin showdown since LBJ claimed he was contemplating entering the contest again. At the very least I wanted to see Shannon Brown get a 2nd chance (even though he screwed up so bad the first time around he probably didn’t deserve one) or Eric Gordon try since he couldn’t get past the dunk-in last year.

All in all, I think the best we can hope for is a Vince Carter-esque debut for Griffin (possible, but not probable) and a surprise performance from one of the other contestants.

Take a look at the contestants and some of their dunks below.

Sidenote: I wish the league went back to having 8 contestants per contest.

Blake Griffin

Brandon Jennings

Javale McGee

Serge Ibaka

Ugh this might be the worst slam dunk line up (outside of Blake Griffin) in the last 20 years!!! This is so wack! I watched the other three contestants video and barely put a smirk on my face!

there is absolutely no star power anymore! No even potential star power! Watched to the young Kobes, the young Vince Carters, the young Jordans??? What happened to the competition??? Sure we knew VC would win that dunk contest but everyone remembers Steve Francis and Tracy McGrady giving their all to win!! Come on NBA!!!

And like Josh said, bring back the 8 contestant dunk competition! I’m so sad to see the great All-Star Weekend go down the drain with lackluster performances and nothing but promotions and sponsorship to put money in David Stern’s pockets!!! SMH
